Embrace the Silence

Don’t waste your breath, or your words.

Let me preface what I am about to say by letting you know that I am 100% dedicated to the idea of “better every day.” When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I think about is how to make myself, and others, better. Usually this is mainly with regard to the physical, but sometimes it crosses over into the mental game. The gap between excellence in the two is quite small.

I am fortunate to have an avenue to reach people and to teach on a large scale–the internet can be a wonderful boon. I am not alone, however, and many others share this forum.

This is a blessing and a curse, because we are now so deeply conditioned to be looking out for the next great thing. This causes influencers to force out ideas that may be superfluous or even flat out stupid. It’s a vicious cycle where we all live for that next fix, and the dealers are forced to provide it, or have you get your fix somewhere else.

Silence PleaseLearning is a lifelong endeavor and daily improvement is the best gift you can give yourself in life. However, it is imperative to not lose your focus on the present.

Embrace the silence.

This rule isn’t just applicable to the delivery and receipt of information, it also pertains quite clearly to speech. I find that nowadays many people are so averse to silence that they will fill the void with inane and insubstantial words just to break the silence. Now we are talking simply for the sake of talking and writing just for the sake of writing.

I’ve gone to great lengths to better understand the business I am in and the one thing that is always at the forefront is “content, content, content.” Of course we would hope to have excellent content every day, but is that realistic? Is that helpful? Or is that just a distraction that suffocates the deeply meaningful and beneficial exchange of information.

20 problems you never knew you had

Hell there is even a site called 10 ways…what are the odds they have 10 useful ways to do ANYTHING on a regular basis.

We’re caught in the middle of this ridiculous filler from all angles. This is why it is so important to filter out the BS and at least be aware that what you’re reading might only there so you’ll read it.

Embrace the silence, and don’t force the words.

Better every day.

Great stuff, Max. During the silence is when I have some of my most creative moments. This reminds me of a quote from a book I read last year (great book by the way) and I'd love to share it with you.

“We come from a generation of people who need their TV or stereo playing all the time. These people so scared of silence. These soundaholics, these quietophobics.”
